Constanta Tango Festival (Romania)
From 29th to 31st july, 2010
Constanta is the most known Rumanian city on the coast of the Black Sea, with on seaside its (...)
Argentinian tango is a dance more than centenary which calls a certain respect, self-respect and the one for the others.
Argentinian tango, it’s the history of emigrating people whom were very left, very lost sometimes, whom met, whom divided, sorrows and joys, sadnesses, angers and melancholies. Far from a simple succession of step, Argentinian tango is above all a walk, a walk through life, a major art, a way of existing, a philosophy. To give sense, this sense which enables us to understand what we do, and why we do it, a true message of interior peace and tenderness, not to go forward alone, blind in the world who surrounds us in our life, but in the milonga too.
A desire for sharing with the other, the one we embrace. Arrived in Europe on stage, Argentinian tango first is a very popular dance. Tango dance is an improvised dance, second after second, according to the way in which music is felt (but also available space on dance floor), movement is binding to the dancer. The base of the tango being walk, 2 concepts are fundamentals for its training, knowledge to be held upright (and our bodies are accustomed to it since many years in general), and to recognize the 4 cardinal directions which surround us Eastern, Western, Northern, Southern (in other words front, back, right, left!)
The remainder is not whereas trajectories, parallels, perpendiculars, balances of weight, counterweights and changes of direction. There is not conventional step which would have to be reproduced, and it’s useless, to dance well, to learn sequences by heart, on the contrary, training for figures in the dance kills the dance. It’s advisable on the other hand to find its naturalness and to avoid « tango » attitudes.
The presence of maestro where rather of a “coach” will allow you to advance more quickly in the relearning of all these sometimes lost body walk mechanisms, and yet so innate and not always so complex to find. With the wire of time, tango steps diversified much. Whereas at the beginning tango was only a walk, appeared then more prepared figures, like ochos, ganchos, boleos, colgadas, jumps, and other spectacular body movements, which are not therefore an end in itself but a way of decorating the dance, being able to intervene punctually and not with the detriment of the emotion, the respect of its partner and the ball. Those whom suffered from it should reassure, in the dance as in life, time learns to men and women humility, we understand whereas “we will never ever know”. Then comes time for essence, and wisdom.
Those whom know to do, do not need more to show, they pass to a more noble purified knowledge, linen of a cloth of history, history of this dance, of this music, social behaviors which go with, codes, and traditions.
Then dance becomes truth, less superficial and more rich, models of dancers change and become more numerous, the ball get built and respected. Revival of tango, in Europe goes back about fifteen years.
This tango there is still young…. Let us give it 5 to 10 years and the traditions will take there the place which they deserve, without to cross short to the innovation and technological research. Print of tango milongas of Buenos Aires will mark the life of intrepid travelling dancers, and tango ball will be harmonized to leave room to sincere emotion of two beings intertwined for the better and for the worse. Tango is known as “an emotion which is danced”…. remains to seek in oneself and recognize emotions that each one has to express!
